A very sobering view of Detroit's place in history. Bonner's commentary on the current economic conditions in Wayne County is quite sad.

Just another obituary from someone who has never even been to Detroit... or Lake Michigan, which he didn't know is 180 miles away! :-)

Was he drunk?

"The 65-story David Stott building, for example, is on the market for $3.5 million."

Idiot!

sent bill bonner a little note,

You sir are an idiot.
This moronic dribble you call "The Life and Death of Great Cities" is so full of factual errors you can not have any idea of what you speak.

1. Detroit its 180 miles from Lake Michigan.
2. The David Stott Building is 32 stories not 65.
3. There is more new development in the downtown area then any other Michigan city.
4. Million dollar condo are build and sold right now in downtown Detroit.

Obviously a map and a quick look at skyscrapers.com would have been to much work for you. Have you ever even seen a photograph of Detroit? At least you spelled it correctly.

Pathetic.

So instead of actually producing things, the economy of the future is to shuffle fake digital money around in circles amongst the corporate elite - while the rest of us work at Wal-Mart, I take it? Ask the mortgage lending industry how that's working out these days...

Who IS this clown, and where did you find him?
