It's not on the website yet, but Diamond Jack's River Tours is now offering a new public tour from Wyandotte which takes passengers right along good old Bob-Lo Island. I'm taking a look at a completely new 2007 brochure and it gives all the details of the new Wyandotte-BobLo Tour, along with the old Wyandotte-LaSalle tour and of course the classic Detroit Tour.

The new Bob-Lo tour is the 3:30 departure from Wyandotte aboard the Diamond Jack. According to the brochure, scenic highlights include Calvert Distillery, Amherstburg, Fort Malden, the Bob-Lo Island resort community, Pavillion building and needle, the Livingston Ship Channel, and houses on Grosse Ile.

The 1:00PM tour from Wyandotte follows the familiar downriver tour route, from Wyandotte up to Ecorse and around behind Fighting Island to LaSalle. A few highlights include various lower river islands and wildlife refuge regions, rare backside views of Great Lakes Steel's Ecorse mills and the Nicholson Terminal and Dock Co., waterfront marinas and the Grosse Ile houses, along with any passing lake freighters or "salties," a staple bit of excitement on all three sailing routes.

The Detroit Tour remains on the same route departing from Hart Plaza leaving at 1PM and 3:30, now with a completely overhauled narration detailing the Riverwalk improvements, RenCen development, and more. Check out the progress of the Riverwalk, historic buildings on Belle Isle, waterfront estates in Windsor (new as of 2006), Hiram Walker & Sons Distillery, Historic Fort Wayne, and the J.W. Westcott II mailboat. It's my personal favorite of the routes, aboard the Diamond Queen.

Keeping with the Bob-Lo theme, it's interesting to note that you'll soon be able to see both the Columbia AND Ste. Claire from Diamond Jack tours. The Columbia remains tied up in the Nicholson's slip and is visible on the 1PM downriver tour, while the Ste. Claire will be visible beginning next week when it moves up to Tri-Centennial State Park from the Diamond Queen on the Detroit Tour.

Here's a link to the website. Maybe if they get enough emails inquiring about the Bob-Lo tour they'll get the information up on the website from the Brochure. http://www.diamondjack.com/

What is actually left from the old Boblo days, or did they tear everything down?

Boblo Island... don't get that thread started again. I gotta get back to work.

Speaking of Boblo, I went to Fort Wayne a few weeks back & spotted them doing test drilling for a anchor spot for the new bridge to Canada by the boblo terminal near Fort Wayne.

Yes. The Ste. Claire did not pass a few inspections, but apparently the problems have been fixed, because the Ste. Claire is upbound right now for Tri-Centennial park and Detroit at this time. Watch for an arrival later Friday evening to Detroit, being towed by Great Lakes Towing tugs.

And yes, there are a number of sights around Fort Wayne, The new LaFarge Cement silo, and Delray where they are doing drilling.
