For all interested, The Villages is having its first Real Estate Open House on Sunday, September 30. "The Villages" is a fairly new name for the larger collection of lower eastside neighborhoods in and around Indian Village and West Village, a bit like the "Midtown" concept, or Grandmont-Rosedale. Sometimes you need a larger grouping of neighborhoods for events such as this! The Villages include Bellevue Village, Berry Subdivision, Detroit Towers, East Village, English Village Brownstones and Lofts, Indian Village, Indian Village Manor, Islandview Village, Shoreline East, and West Village. For details, see the full-page ad on page 29 of the Crain's "Living and Investing in the D" 2007 print edition, or this website: http://www.thevillagesofdetroit.org/villages_landing_page.html

This is an excellent idea that I can see helping to transform this area into a destination all its own. It could be a city within the city. Hope the funding for this effort is continuous and people stay involved. Great idea! |

Quiet, Quaint and QUIRKY? Some volunteer's idea of good branding... Aside from that, the "Villages" is a GREAT idea. Love it. |

Stellar! Forget press releases about stadiums and casinos. THIS is what we need to see more of! |

Dan - What is it that we need to see more of -- or asked another way, what do you actually think that THIS is? |

^^^The promotional effort to live in neighborhoods like this. The photo really helps it come across as sincere. |

The photo is great -- however, if you actually saw that corner, I think the perceived "sincerity" of the promo would quickly vanish. |

^Yeah, I know. That was one of my initial thoughts--how far out of the frame before things get sketchy? Still--it's far better than the glossy, slick, overproduced crap that gets put out there for new subdivisions and condo buildings in the burbs. IMO, anything that builds stronger neighborhoods is a positive. These neighborhoods working together in a marketing campaign is a can't-lose. |

quote:Quiet, Quaint and QUIRKY? Some volunteer's idea of good branding... Well, yeah. But if you just had Quiet and Quaint, that might bring to mind something like Northville, which this area is not. And I'd have thought someone with your name would appreciate the Q's. |

It's Agnes street between Van Dyke and Parker, facing east. |

I am not sure how "quiet" gets in there. I lived within 200 feet of that photo for nearly a decade, and rarely did a night go by without some sirens from the hospital, or shouting match between residents, or jazz streaming out of the Harlequin (occasionally outdoors), the more than occasional gunshot, cars screeching on Jefferson, the multitude of dogs barking throughout the evening, etc. Most not negatives (aside from the gunshots) just part of everyday city life. But to use "quiet" as the first adjective is just not honest. |

How about "quaint"? Do they mean it in the way Chaucer did?

Well, I think Islandview Village is quiet. I don't think Islandview Village is quaint. Quirky? Meh... Then again, I just live there and my opinion is no more important than Dabirchs'. BTW, Dab...I thought that was a picture of your family on the park bench. No? |
