In regard to the series of posts here (https://www.atdetroit.net/forum/mes sages/107211/108788.html), I've learned that children will be able to stay in MGM's hotel. I'm willing to bet they'll also be able to attend functions in their convention center, too. From MGM's site: Are children allowed in the hotel? Yes, children will be able to stay at the hotel. There will be no activities or childcare service. |

Children are allowed to stay in hotels that have casinos in every other city. They just can't go on the gaming floor... what's the issue? |

There was a discussion in another thread with the same title. The original poster implied that there was a design flaw with MGM's new casino. They stated that since the hotel was connected with the rest of the complex (as opposed to Motor City's and Greektown's hotel and casino) that children wouldn't be able to stay in their hotel and attend conferences there. |

How is lack of daycare or children activities a design flaw? If anything I think it's a design breakthrough. Create a structure that dissuades families from bringing their children ... GENIUS! jk, I love kids, I just don't think it's essential to the design of the casino's ... these aren't resorts, I don't think the Bhorgata or the Trump Taj Mahal cater to children... |

I'm so sick of this stupid thread. I started it months ago to make the following points: 1. Hotel/convention space in downtown Detroit is severely limited. 2. MGM's design means that no one under 21 can enter the convention space at their new facility. 3. Detroit will continue to lose conventions because this still limits convention and hotel space for events including anyone under 21. That's all there was to it. Yet, people continue to post questions like "How is a lack of daycare or children's activities a design flaw?" Or they point out that children don't belong in a casino. Duh, we aren't talking about the casino, we are talking about the convention space. Sorry to confuse so many people in a city with a literacy rate of 40 percent..... |

What percentage of conventions cater to a clientele that is largely under 21? I don't think you would ever hope to land a Boy Scout jamboree at a casino hotel regardless.... |

You would be surprised how many events revolve around kids and competitions (and their parents), and these are held in hotel/convention centers-- including many in Vegas. Also, the event doesn't even have to be something that is heavily involved with an under-21 crowd. Even if just a small percentage of the participants are under-21, the organizers won't hold it at a place where those participants aren't allowed. Every single participant means dollars, and the organizers will just go somewhere else so everyone can attend. |
