I'm going to put Wazooty in automotive so we can see how many automotive related jobs there are. I don't really understand what Dabirch said, so I'm going to put him in Entertainment, since Gannon's A/V is in there. As for TJ, let's put you in software and call it Software/IT.

1 Advertising/Marketing
2 Education
1 Street Prophet
1 Social Science
4 Government Worker
4 Entertainment
6 Automotive (1 out of work)
2 Manufacturing (non automotive)
1 Publishing
4 Software/IT
1 Health Care
1 Architect
1 Electrical Engineer
1 Lawyer

I'm a Manufacturing Engineer who decided to pursue my BS in Engineering after receiving a layoff in 2003, until then I just had the associates. During that time I've held many different types of jobs as I do have a child to support including an hourly position in a Union Warehouse. The excellent benefits there allowed me to get her into braces. I took that job because I was disillusioned like many on this board and thought the union position would be cake and allow me to finish my degree without much fuss. I was quite surprised by the hard work and long hours involved with it and had to get out of that after 2.5 years as it allowed no time for classes, and that's what I've been doing the past year and a half. I live off of Pell Grants, ebay and Part time work at a family business. Graduation is in a few months, so back to work. Engineering (Automotive) likely as I'm not in a position to move with a house to sell and a young child in the area who lives with her mom.

Let's try again.

I work for a company that publishes and distributes video games. That is the vertical within which I work (you could call it the entertainment industry if you would like).

The function I perform is a business development/mergers & acquisition function.

Your list has some defined by vertical (i.e. entertainment/government) and some defined by function (i.e. IT).

I was just trying to give you both so you could decide where best to put it.

Thanks Dabirch, you are right. I'll leave you in entertainment. Cam is going into out of work automotive I guess. Wow the automotives really made a comeback, I guess it is still pretty important to our area.

When I explain what I do, it goes over most folks heads faster than Christine Beatty driving down Livernois, so I generally stick with the ol "I work with computers" explanation. I'm a Business Intelligence Analyst who maintains databases and reporting systems for a major electrical component distributor who services a plethora of automotive companies and suppliers. I also own my own DJ/Sport Game Announcer/Home Theater Installation company which gets me off th couch on the weekends and helps support my bar habit.

Should we put you in Automotive Raptor, if your job is dependant on the auto industry? Or could you get other clients if needed?

we have a pretty good cross section of clients and are really pushing for construction business right now, but the majority in MI are auto related. I guess we're tied to the auto industry via customers, but my job is mostly IT, and the company is in the Distribution industry .

I think it would be very important to chart those who do multiple things...make that a separate count, after their major source of income.

That way, we'll be able to tally the percentage of modern thinkers...diversified even in their income stream, and potential application of their gifts and talents.
