I am a Detroiter currently living out of state and looking forward to come home for a visit next weekend. Anything special going on in the City?

Just the same old City vs. Suburb/White-Black thing and Crime/budget issues involving both greedy residents and the economy. It's all good though.

Just lots of murders, carjackings, shootings(justified and not). You know... the usual.

Sounds like fun! Anything that would involve people watching or a few adult beverages? Anyone want to give me some wings tickets for the 8th?

Oh yeah, and not to surprise you, but the state may be headed into a Shutdown by next week, so you may notice thing out of the ordinary on your visit. I hope it doesn't disappoint you though.

I sounds like the casinos will be open. The MGM isn't open yet, right? That was just a preview. When is it supposed to open?

"Anything special going on in the City?"

It's relative depending on when the last time is that you were in downtown Detroit...

The MGM Grand is the first of three casinos opening after extensive remodeling. It opens on Wednesday, October 3. There are multiple restaurants inside:

Have you tried Sweet Lorraines – not new, but near the river and very nice:

On other things to see: have you been to the new contemporary art museum?

I might see you there as I am attending an informational session on October 3.

And my last suggestion is to visit or re-visit the Detroit Historical Museum which recently did a massage interior re-design and still has the old “streets of Detroit” which is great:

The Detroit Main Library is right next-door and is good for a walk-through – a nice architectural gem.

The DIA does not re-open until November.

Sorry I’m not being smart-ass here – do you want more suggestion?

Thanks for the info. I might stop by the casino and throw away my money for the greater good of Detroit economics. I saw the pics and look forward to seeing it completed. I think the historical museum is something i'll try to do.
