Wasn't that building the former AT&T Office Building for Metro Detroit?

No. It was headquarters for First Federal of Michigan, since submerged into Charter One. It *does* look a bit similar to the 1970's addition to the former Michigan Bell building. That building now contains the AT&T Michigan offices.

I remember seeing a building that had the AT&T logo at the top of the high rise. I'm not sure which building it was though.

The Michigan Bell Building, which then became Ameritech, then SBC, and now AT&T is located on Michigan & Cass. The older building was referred to as the Bell Building, the newer one as the HQ Building, and behind the Bell Building was the Bell Annex.

When AT&T was split up in 1984, Ameritech got the Bell Building and HQ Building. AT&T got the Bell Annex.

Now with 4 of the 7 Baby Bells back together with AT&T in one company (along with Cingular Cellular), the name AT&T is used for the entire Corporation. However, it was SBC that united Pacific Bell, Ameritech, BellSouth and AT&T back together, but they're using the more famous AT&T name (rather than SBC, which was originally Southwestern Bell Corp.).

As a side note, the 1001 Woodward Building replaced Detroit's second skyscraper, the gorgeous Majestic Building, which was torn down in 1962. You can read a complete history of the building and view pictures of it at www.buildingsofdetroit.com/pla ces/majestic.

Speaking of 1001 Woodward, how are those condo sales going?
