Did anyone else watch the MGM sneak preview on ABC?? The Casino was awsome. The spa restaurants and Hotel were out of this world.

They had a preview on Channel 4 at 7PM, and a different one at 7:30PM on Channel 7.

They were different but really showed some spectacular interiors.

Even the outside (especially the hotel tower), which had angered a lot of forumers as being too "Deco" like in appearance, has a more subdued and restrained look. No gold glass like in the artist renderings.

The only thing I was mildly disappointed in during the 2 shows was a lack of showing much of the actual casino area.

I watched it...I don't think most people realize what a big deal this is just yet and what the long-term positive effects will be...

There's nothing like this anywhere in the midwest

I can't remember, is Motorcity supposed to be adding any restaurants to it's facility?

Actually Iridescence is moving to the top floor of the hotel tower at MotorCity. It'll have some nice views.

MotorCity casino will also have some nice interiors, but it will housed in 3 separate buildings, the Casino, Hotel, and food building. They'll likely get around the fact that folks will be hoping from one building to the next by disguising the skyways (no windows) just as they do now between the current casino building and the food building... i.e. you have no clue that you are walking between buildings... just walking down a hallway that has doors and artwork along it... and gives no hint of being in a skyway.

But MGM will likely steal some of the thunder from MotorCity and Greektown as the premier gaming palace in town. It helps when you spend more than your competitors combined.

a very good friend of mine in human resourses as told he need to stay in the hotel last night and tonight. he stayed on the 15th floor facing the city. He described the casino, restaurants, clubs and lighting drama as 'breathtaking' 'earth shattering'.

We have no idea the massive impact of positive word of mouth this will generate for everyone who comes an experience this palace. I dont gamble but I will be up in there tue at midnight.

The exterier of Motor city will dazzle visitors the most. Its retro revamp look will end up being our new city mascot.

I think I will go check it out next weekend, gamble, check out one if not all of the five clubs, and between the two hopefully have a reason to rent a room in the hotel.

Mmmmmmm.........I cant wait to go eat one of those steaks that the chef soaks in a giant pan of pure melted butter for 45 minutes.

MY GOD !

Dena Centofanti (who also does health reports) was like "um, why would you soak it in butter ?

Chef guy: "seals in the juices"...

Hahahaha ! Yeah - the butter juices.

"Fine Dining" is 75% butter folks, just so ya know. (avoid anything called "zip sauce" - lol)

I passed by it while driving up this Lodge this weekend... those parking structures are massive. There seemed to be more parking than hotel and casino space combined.

^that's in part because they built in on existing DTE parking areas, so now DTE employees get to park there

I don't know how many employees they have...I'd imagine at least a couple thousand

Mauser765 (ignoring the snarky comments to you), maybe if we were in France, all that butter wouldn't be harmful, since the French consumption of red wine seems to counteract the artery clogging effect of that type of meal (and the French do consume a lot of butter).

But since American's (unlike the French) are known for their high cholesterol, that does sound something like Fettucini Alfredo (which has something like a full stick of butter in it)... what I call "heart attack on a plate". :-(

Then again, maybe the butter doesn't soak in...

Just took a drive down third. The place looks awesome. It's all lit up, there are news crews everywhere, and lots of limos.

Driving past the parking structure entrance, a cop walked out right into the street in front of my car. He was not paying attention. Luckily, I was going about 10 mph and stopped quickly. He turned towards me, put his hand on his gun, and said "Hey! Do you want to get shot? DO YOU WANT TO GET SHOT?"

A complete asshole. I hope he and other power-tripping DPD adjust their attitudes for the future out-of-town visitors coming to visit these casinos. I know it would have given me a warm and fuzzy feeling about the city if it was my first time here.

Anyways...the place is buzzing with activity. I heard they were going to have fireworks tonight. True?

Kid_dynamite, I heard on the news this evening that there will be fireworks about 11:00 tonight, just before the casino opens.

Just returned from checking out the new casino (Doors opened at 11:15pm), and it's a pretty classy joint. It's pretty nice to see 7 (I think) new restaurants open just like that. I think most will be pleasantly surprised with what they see.

Well, there is one thing that has been proven from the early v.i.p. showing - celebrities still don't tip well. Cheap bastards. Kid Rock tips a dollar a drink, then wonders why the drinks don't come quickly.

Abracadabra

what is wrong with tipping a dollar a drink? I mean generally if a drink runs at 4 bucks that is a 25% tip, which is more than acceptable. The only time I could se something wrong with that is if the drink was 10 buck then in that case you are charging way to damn much for the drink.

I think you'll be hard pressed to find a $4 drink.

^Actually, the last drink I recall paying for at the Elysium Lounge on Shelby near Congress St. in downtown Detroit was $11.

ETA: You might get a bottled Bud Light for $6.
