Actually it is not DFD but DPD.
I am unsure of the original Precinct, but it is not 22. It is in the 2000 block of Gratiot, and if you look closely at the image, there are brackets for 2 more numbers to the right of the 22, leading me to believe it is an address. It is on the corner of Gratiot & Hunt St., just north of Eastern Market.

http://maps.google.com/maps?q= 2220+Gratiot+Ave,+Detroit,+MI& ie=UTF8&om=1&z=19&ll=42.350724 ,-83.032973&spn=0.001261,0.003 39&t=h

It's the current home of American or Eagle Bonds I believe. There is a swimming pool on the 2nd floor, gym facilities and I am told 2 fireplaces.
It's been for sale for some time now. I saw it listed recently again in a commercial real estate list, but I can't seem to find the web page now. If memory serves they were asking around $750k.

Cool thanks. I thought it seemed unusual for the fire dept. to have precincts instead of battalions or districts. From the aerial photo, it looks like a firehouse across the street. I'll check the Box42 website. Thanks!

There is a firehouse across the street. I believe it used to house the archives/museum type items for DFD. It has been sitting empty for a long time now.

Hey Rsa...

I was finally able to track it down. I thought I was low on the asking price. It is actually 1.3 million.
It was built in 1905 and has 47,000 sq. ft.
It is listed by Colliers. web site
The property page is javascript so I can't directly link it here. Just do a search for Detroit property for sale and you'll find it.

Address is 2200 Hunt Street (whence the "22").

Colliers says it's 47,000 SF at $28.70 per; floorplate is about 60'x80' at 3 stories high plus a 30'x70' 1-story garage addition, which totals 16,500 SF, of which perhaps 10,000 SF is leasable space.

Apparently the building contains a warp in the continuum of space that makes its per-square-foot price more attractive to potential buyers.

Skeptical in Ottawa.

Was known as the 3rd Precinct, or Hunt Street Station, until it closed about 1955.
