Detroit’s three casinos logged 4.8 percent more in revenue last month than they did in January 2006, the Michigan Gaming Control Board reported Tuesday. The three casinos combined for almost $109.4 million in gross receipts from gambling in January 2007, compared with $104.3 million a year earlier. http://www.crainsdetroit.com/a pps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/2007 0213/REG/70213016/1035 Any new development photos? |

My bet is she was explaining why LAST YEAR'S numbers might've been soft. Jt1 has me wondering about the No sports book comment, but the rest agrees with an increase. I'm wondering if the increase if more from out-of-towners, or hometowners...and IF they think the gambling momentum is increasing with the hotels finally being constructed. I'm sure it isn't from altruistic gamblers trying their damnedest to help fund those buildings! |

Colder weather encourages more gaming (not proven, just my theory). |

Gannon - my comment was to point out there is no sports book for the SB comment. i on't believe the SB would have any impact on Detroit's casinos. I wonder how many people received their buyout checks from GM or FOrd and had some 'extra' money |

With respect to the SB, the large number of tourists who came for the festivities may have dropped a few bucks at the Casinos. |

That would've twisted the figures the other way, Up, we're talking about an increase THIS year from last. If they had a similar bump last year, then it was magnified even MORE this one, then perhaps something as simple as cabin fever coupled to a lack of innovative TeeVee programming might be the culprit! |

Lots more people attended downtown events this past year, ( Eg, Superbowl, Tigers, etc,,) Many more dropped in casinos to gamble also for the day or eve while they were downtown, That is what spinoff business is all about and why downtown is moving towards offering the whole package to visitors, and residents. It makes Detroit a more interesting place to visit to many people. |
