The Gem Theatre will host the world premier of the film "Moving Manmade Mountains" on Monday, March 19, and Tuesday, March 20. The film is about the life and work of Pete Friesen, the world-renowned engineer who moved the Gem Theatre in 1997. The Gem is one of the stars of the film and Mr. Friesen himself will be on hand. The film's producer--who is flying in from British Columbia--tells me engineers from all over the world will come to Detroit to catch the premier. A 6:30 pm reception with free light refreshments precedes the 7:30 pm showing. Seating is limited, so get there early.

Whatever happened to the plan for the Gem to acquire a "G," "E," and "M" from the old GM Bldg. signs? Or did they do it? And does anybody know if those signs are still in storage at GM? It would have been awesome if one could have been placed atop the Wintergarden, facing Canada, with the other one above the Jefferson entrance.
