Forgive me if this was posted already, but it was announced on Paul W Smith show early this morning that the Dental School will be moving downtown.

Downtown as a relative term. They are moving to the old Detroit Osteopathic Hospital on MLK East of W. Grand Blvd.

It's nowhere near downtown; it is not far from the neighborhood that Habitat is rebuilding west of the old ballpark.

I went to the Univ. of Detroit Dental School when it was located on E. Jefferson, by the Greektown Casino area. I didn't know it moved away.

When UD merged with Mercy, at the same time the Dental School on E Jeff was in danger of losing accreditation because the board didn't like the facility, so they built a new facility at the former Mercy location which they dubbed the Outer Drive Campus. That is still in operation, but UDM sold that campus to WCCCD and their lease on the "new" Dental School runs out soon, so they needed a third location and this is it.

Never could figure why anyone would want to be a dentist and spend the rest of their lives looking down people's mouths.

Better than being a proctologist, though, I guess.

Well it was rather silly of them to build a new building in the Outer Drive Campus back in the 1990's, only to have to relocate again.

They should have thought about the future of maintaining 2 campuses.

MLK and W. Grand BLVD is nowhere near downtown, that is the pure ghettohood. Now It would of been more relative if the location was east of the Lodge and west of I-75 from W. Grand BLVD to Downtown.

I recall when U of D had its dental school sitting where Renaissance Center now stands. That was in the early 60's. I was attending the non- airconditioned U of D Law school across the street and with the windows all open, you could hear the wrecker's ball going BOOM BOOM BOOM during evidence class. The dental school was being demolished to go furthur east on Jefferson to Dinan Hall.
Since then, the dental school has wandered all over the city whereas the dear old law school remains, steady as a rock, at its same location at 651 E. Jefferson.
But, of course, lawyers have always had more stability than dentists.

The Rock is a fine example of UD Law School. He is steady as The Rock. Could they make a rule that lawyers have to wear socks with the tassled dress shoes at ballgames? Is that too much to ask?
What are we, chopped liver! (You don't to court like that.)

Speaking of tassled shoes at the ballpark, jjaba, I have a nice deal lined up for April 11. It's an away game, but I have a behind the scenes tour. We get in, view the press box, check out the dugout, a peek into the clubhouse and a reception at the Tiger Club. Even free parking in Lot 1. 5-8PM. Can't go wrong. Don't wear your Cubs cap.
All you gotta do is meet me at 5. Consider it a "prize" for your 5000 posts.

I'm surprised Mike Duggan hasn't offered the old Hutzel Hospital to UDM for the dental school. He's been trying to put everything there since Hutzel Hospital moved.
