Some little prick in a foreign car with a spoiler ran a red light, turned right, swerved over 2 lanes. I quietly caught up to him. (I was 1st at the green light). Then when he realized he was about to get pimped by a slow van, sped up. I did too. I got in front of the van when I could pass, and he (the furrin' car) passed me. When I had to make the same maneuver as he did later, he slams on the brakes and turned left in front me. If I see that prick again, I am writing down his plate number and telling all the cops that the guy is drunk/on drugs. Yes, you can tell about the personality of a person by what they drive, to an extent. Minvans = slow New Impalas = slow Buicks = slow Lt. Duty Trucks/SUV's = varies by driver Cadillac's = varies by model Sporty foreign/domestic cars (Camaro's/Firebirds, Mustangs, imports) = usually fast or at least above the speed limit. Corvettes = varies by driver I commute 2-4 hours a day, as probably some of you do too. You see trends. Chrysler/AMC is a mystery to me. They change their logo more often than I change my underwear. :p James |

I drive an '07 Saturn Vue. Bought it in December '06 and I absolutely love it. I believe it's made in Kentucky. The only Saturn I know of made in Michigan is the new Outlook (full-size SUV). I'm almost certain that I'm probably the only non-married 25 year old guy driving one, but hey, it's a great conversation starter if I ever get the itch to pick up a soccer mom...right? Previously I drove a '98 Nissan Maxima SE that I purchased from my dad. It was a fine car, but it had 137K miles and needed a new flywheel, clutch and tires. I decided I wanted something new, and above all, domestic. |

Cambrian, nice to see some AMC love on here. My first car was a 1981 Spirit, my parents bought it for me in my senior year October 1988. We must be an AMC family, my parents previously drove a 1980 Spirit and a 1974 Hornet Sportabout. BeadGrl and I attended the AMC show last year at Greenmead. I remarked to her that AMC people are the dorks of the car world. I tend to like the oddball/orphan cars. In fact, if I had the time and money I'd get me a new toy. My work van is a 1997 GMC Safari with 145K miles, god I hope the boss gets me a new one next year! Anyone have an opinion on a 1994 Olds 88? A friend of mine has one but she's thinking of getting something new. It has 145K miles and runs very well, she claims. Not that I need another car or anything... |

more AMC love - my first car was a 1982 AMC Eagle Wagon, complete with wood trim, bought in 1995. i LOVED that car, even if hardly a damn thing worked in it. If i could afford it, i'd still buy one today and fix it up. unfortunately, reliable transportation is a bit more important at this point. that was followed by: 1990 Olds 88 (3800) 1996 Chevy Cavalier 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix SE (3.1L) 2003 Cavalier, previously mentioned. My current cavalier blows away my old one. the ecotec is a far better engine than the old 2.2L the cavalier used to have. |

Bobj, I love my Diesel Liberty. They've had a few recalls, one being the torque converter and another the lower ball joints but for the most part it's a solid ride. Some folks are having problems with a poorly designed EGR valve crapping out on them, possibly because the motor is Italian, made for European roads where diesel emissions are not so strict. Filling up with Bio or USLD seems to fix those problems though. Check out this, forum. BTW it is one of the most informative/mature car forum's I've been on.. http://www.lostkjs.com/forum/p hpBB2/viewforum.php?f=5&sid=43 32680fd1ce9d11c41f692d8ebab967 hope this helps D |

My Ambassador's little 343 2v will smoke my ford's 460 off the line. Like gramma would always say when I brought her to the shows, "We built a fine car, it's sad they're not around anymore" Being an Executive's secretary entitled her to cool perks like bringing home prototype cars for weekends. She brought around a "race car" it was either a trans am javelin race car, or AMX 2, my dad says in '70, I was too young to remember. A pacer wagon in '77 before the release, and an Alliance in '82 before the release date. Dad snuck into the executive's garage and snapped some pics of Teague's 390 Metallic orange / black Gremlin. In '70 Gremlin's were only available with a 6. AMC was capable of a lot the big companies could never accomplish with all thier various empires under one roof. |

1965 Chrysler Newport Conv.-- Loved this car! Bad-assed black, 383, 270HP, worked 3 years at a crappy after school job, to buy it from our neighbor, who kept it cherry-- Only to have my brother wreck it while I was in the Army. Dumbass. 1975 Pontiac LeMans-- Rusted beater when I got her, but ran like the proverbial ape-- Loved the "veed" hood.. 1979 Plymouth Horizon TC-3 a nightmare combo of a troubled automaker with a 1.7L VW engine that produced I think only about 70HP. Yikes. 1978 Dodge Powerwagon club cab with full sized bed-- Needed two parking spots to park, plus the full time 4wd mated to the 383, made my trips "twenty dollars" one-way. A Powerful beast,I pulled stumps out of the ground, and plowed snow with it while I had it. Also owned: 1988 Mercury Topaz, 1989 Dodge Dynasty.. Both were solid, but very boring little cars... Since the late 90's I've been "issued" a company ride, which is currently a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup... I still dream of that Newport, however. (sigh) |

What is an STS driver? Rich! I'd say they're a white male (aged 35 to 45 years) professional, making around $70k a year as some sort of engineering/middle manager type deal. Cadillac's finally pumping out designs that look good to the younger crowd and good overall. Buick's managed to dress up a few of their models as well, though the Rendevouz still gets ugliest car of the year award. Hell, all around GM it looks like they finally realized that people want good looking cars. If only Ford could do the same.. As for my cars: 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis (bought in 2001) 1998 Nissan Altima (bought in 2002) If I could have the Marquis' size, power, and overall cushiness combined with my Alty's reliability and gas mileage, I'd be a happy, happy man. |

By far the '61 Ford Ranchero. My favorite? The '67 Pontiac The most fun? The '84 Dodge Ram Van- it was a conversion, I was in High School! |

LMichigan, I forgot, yeah an '89 Topaz. Not a bad car after I replaced the first engine. It idled at about 5,000 RPM constantly near the end of its life and no mechanic on earth could figure out why. Eventually the trans burned out from the high idle. |

Aschar, I had a friend who lost the spare on the back of his Liberty parked in a lot about a block away from where you were. That area is prime for car thieves, I guess a lot of cars in one place. Here I thought the cars in the MGM lot were better off, with all that security. Do they get that much money for the Liberty spare? |

My mom drives one shes black, over 40, and is a RN. They are cheaper than you think im leasing one only for 383 a month and I only put 500 down. Compare that to the Dodge Stratus I bought for 454 a month and that is a hell of a deal im happy to say I took advantage of. |

My first car was an 89 Chevy 1500 Pickup that I had to share with my dad because I was at school during the day and he worked afternoons. That meant I had exactly 10 minutes to get home from school before my dad needed the car. It was great that my parents actually let me drive a car as soon as I got my license, so I'm not complaining. The first car that was all mine was a 92 LeBaron convertible. My parents bought it for Christmas and told me "This is nicer than the $h1tbox you would have bought, so just give us the $1500 you saved for the car and we'll pay the other thousand. (It was $2500). It was a gorgeous car, but it ran on a combination of midgrade gas, special Chrysler +3 transmission fluid and radiator fluid. The refilling of all the fluids that leaked was the most expensive part of the car. Esp. the transmission fluid. After driving it happily for 4 years and ruining my driveway with the stains, my radiator gave out, in addition to the already dysfunctional transmission, I was driving on a donut and the electrical system gave out on the inside of the car and I couldn't see a single gauge. Oh yeah, and the car leaked in from the top, so i had to drill holes in the floorboards to let the water drain out. My father forcibly took my keys and gave the car to his buddy that sells cars on the side. The car was a mechanical wreck and 14 years old, but it still looked great, so he sold it for $400. My next car was a 2000 Chevy Malibu. My parents bought it brand new off the lot but in the course of the next 6 years, my mother got it into 1 major and 2 minor accidents. By the time I got it, I was investing $400 at the mechanics every 2 months, either on the electrical system that was not working, on the radiator that was ruined, on the fuel pump that just up and died or a myriad of other problems that I hadn't got around to fixing yet. It was great to have a free car from my folks, but it was less dependable than the car they took away from me. So out of desperation I sold that one a few months ago and bought my most recent car. A 1999 Olds Alero (made in Lansing). It's a nice 2 door coupe with the spoiler and sports package. It's got a few dents, but I bought it for the same price as the Malibu I sold in nearly non-running condition. So as you can see, I have a proud history of driving American automobiles, but what does my husband drive. A 2002 BMW 323i |

77 Ford LTD II (I'm 2 young 2 remember it, but I call it the 'Gran Torino with angles' [lol]) But here's a very short list-in detail-some cars I've owned over the past 15 years (at the most). 1987 Plymouth Horizon (1994) My 1st ride. Had it for four months and I totaled it in front of my home 1989 Plymouth Reliant (1994-1997) My great-grandfather's last ride and it was passed down to me. R-,e-,l-,i-,a-,n-,t is just what that baby was! One time I got hit by a bus in that car and STILL kept goin'! It was like timex, took a lickin' and kept on tickin'! 1988 Chevrolet Corsica (1997-2001) If I'm not mistaken, the Corsica replaced the Malibu in the 80's [and resurfaced 10 years later]. My 1st Chevy. I grew up on Chrysler(s) but my conversion came quick when I claimed the car that I learned how 2 drive in 4 years after my HS graduation. The inside was very bland but I made do. I wrecked that one, too. But a family friend who was a mechanic was able to fix it back up. He fixed it up so well that I drove to Cleveland in it AND back! I even went to the junkyard and bought a Corsica tape player because the stock radio had no cassette slot and thanks 2 those Chilton's manuals-the Bible of Automotive-I installed the radio/tape player in NO TIME! Eventually the car was dying off to the point where it would shut off on the freeway! Which leads to the next car that I bought at 24 years of age. 1995 Pontiac Grand Am SE (2000-present) Man, the stories I could tell about this car that I had going on 8 years! I bought it from my grandfather and I just had a ball with it. My ONLY complaint(s) about that car was it wasn't a stick shift, and it was an SE. Other than that I had a great ride with this car. It then had 25-27,000 miles on it, it has slightly over 150,000 now. But it could go from 0-40 in 5 seconds, stop on a dime, purr like a kitten, at the most a combined 35 mpg, takes up to 13-14 gallons of gas, goes and estimated 340 miles on a full tank! This was the 1st car I've owned that has never been in a MAJOR accident like the other 3 rides I had, but it has seen a number of speeding tickets, sideswipings (while it was parked, I might add), parking tickets, stolen license plates, cracked hubcaps, a busted windshield-that happened at a school I used to work at-bumper 2 bumper encounters (I guess karma was doin' its thing on me in return for all those wrecks I got into as a younger man), busted radiators, you get the idea by now. But in spite of all that, this was by far THE best car I've ever owned. And I was heartbroken when Pontiac discontinued the GA after 30-plus years. ALL my cars were used. From 18 y.o. until now. I hated it at first, but I'm glad that I drive pre-owned cars now. Now that I'm older, I appreciate havin' LOW INSURANCE! So until I get that 6-figure income (go ahead, y'all L.Y.A.O.. I'm laughin' too), I'm stickin' 2 used cars for that reason. Another reason, the car's ALREADY broken in, the bugs are already out. (Message edited by waxx on April 10, 2007) |
