Do many other large cities have such a definition of themselves by a single road? It is really interesting to think about Woodward in the context framed by the Detroit News. Here in Charlotte, NC, there is of course a main road intersection downtown, but it is no where near the same as Woodward. Leave it to Detroit to define itself with a road! |

Peachtree St. in Atlanta is very similar to Woodward Avenue in Detroit. It runs miles north and south from rural roads south of the city through the downtown and out to the northern well-to-do burbs and beyond. |
