Clare-Division Plant Closes; 139 Jobs Lost
Posted: 4/9/2007

Nearly 140 local workers don't have jobs today, after a major auto parts plant closed. Martinrea International is a Canadian-based company that builds parts for Ford and other auto businesses.
The Clare division was the largest plant in the state, located on Industrial Drive. The company announced plans to close in January, saying they were re-structuring their North American plants.
On Friday, that closure became official. The Middle Michigan Development Corporation has been working with Martinrea, Inc. since the announcement.
It says while the impact will be more widespread than the city of Clare, they hope the loss will not be long-term. Many of the workers were offered transfers to the plant in Manchester, Michigan.
