Yeah, the SWAT team was camped out on my block. It was interesting driving back to my neighborhood today and getting stopped by a cop with an M4 and two banana clips.

Oh my gosh. Do we have to do this EVERY single time there's a murder anywhere in the state of Michigan? Alright, let's pull out the stats again.

Ferndale Murders 2005: 1
Ferndale Murders 2005 per 100,000: 4.5

Detroit Murders 2005: 354
Detroit Murders 2005 per 100,000: 39.3

Ok, can we be done?

Love Detroit, but let's not kid ourselves here.

So details came out. This has very little to do with Ferndale.

http://www.myfoxdetroit.com/my fox/pages/News/Detail?contentI d=2893746&version=1&locale=EN- US&layoutCode=TSTY&pageId=3.2. 1

"Police say the victim is a 48-year-old man from Detroit who was recently released fro prison. The two suspects are also from Detroit."

This is probably retaliation for something that occured in prison. The suspects are most likely "friends on the outside". Either way, it reflects not at all on my fair city, so NYAH.

If you guys want some serious city vs suburb 5th grade level comedy, visit the freep.com forums on these news stories. I gave up on those a long time ago, and if you've never read them (until now), you would see why.

Anyway, people pulling guns to solve their problems shows that they've respectfully exhausted all other methods of conflict resolution and that they are desperate to come out the winner. That or blasting peoples' brains out is the new "slap on the wrist".

sorry, JL, it took place in your city and, quite frankly, too damned close to my parents' house - I hate it when anything happens near their neck of the woods

Don't be sorry, because your point is irrelevant. No Ferndale citizens involved is all that matters to me. The shooter could have followed the victim all the way to Sault St. Marie and shot him, they're still both from Detroit.

Cleo,

I'm sure you will keep your family out of the City Buying up all of the CRACK and HEROIN in sight. I'm pretty sure you have your local rehab on speed-dial.

What the hell is wrong with this thought that Buying drugs and Sex is not a crime but selling is!!!! "THERE IS NO DRUG MARKET WITHOUT YOU"

We have a shared Responsibility:

Your responsibility is to STOP BEING AN ENABLER reduce the Use of drugs in your community.

And with that reduction, my responsibility is to reduce all of the negatives associated with the sales.

Please don't talk about Guns in Detroit as we all know where they come from!!

Also, you don't wan't to go there, with that "your neighborhood is better than mine" argument. Although I Defend the city and can't wait to go back, I built in he burbs a couple years back. So lets not get confused about addresses!!

Lvnthed, you are a complete idiot. I don't think Cleo drives 4 hours downstate to buy crack in Detroit.

Man, I don't usually resort to name calling, but that is just f'ing stupid. BTW I never said "my neighborhood is better than yours". I expressed relief no Ferdalians were shot or did the shooting, as I have a sense of community, which I am allowed to.

I don't buy drugs in Detroit, I don't buy sex in Detroit, I don't own a gun or sell any, so get a freakin' clue.

You know it is sooooo easy for people in the subs to degrade people in the city about what they do. But growing up in that Vandyke corridor and watching that deluge of people invading my old neighborhood every day was hard.
what is even harder to swallow is that when I go back every weekend I still see the same patterns and people.

You can bash all those who are selling drugs and committing crimes in the city, but you better own up to the suburban responsibility. This is a two way street.

Stop being so thin skinned.

And yes I know people who exclusively travel from up north to sell stolen/legal guns and other merchandise for drugs.

DUDE nobody is bashing or degrading people who live in the city. There is not ONE freaking post on this whole thread that generalizes the people there as bad people. Go back and actually read before running your mouth. You've been on here for not even a month, and you have 114 posts because you talk and don't listen.

YOU are the one being defensive and thin skinned. Give it a rest.

I was thinking of opening a sex/drug/weapons house here in Ferndale so people wouldn't have to drive so far to buy or sell them. I see this as a win-win for the suburbs and Detroit.

Everyone seems to have an opinion on Ferndale maintaining a SWAT team. As someone who actually lives in Ferndale (and whose taxes pay to support the SWAT unit), I'm damned glad we have it and for a lot of reasons.

As a supporter of law and order, I'm happy to pay for our quick response teams. It’s nice to know that some one will show up when you may need them (unlike some other cities that shall remain nameless). Way to go Ferndale 5-O.

"What I found suprising/interesting about this is that a small city like Ferndale has one of those SWAT team tanks. I wonder how often they get to use it."

the tank vehicle i saw being used in the news footage had Madison Heights markings on it. unless there was a second unit i did not see, i don't think Ferndale has a tank.
