NOTES: Influenced by Chinese mist separation of planes of the painting, this winter thaw painting is based on Bois Blanc Island in the Straits of Mackinac where my father grew up and saw the first car arrive on the island. When I first visited the island, I was struck by sight of abadoned cars peacefully rusting away in the forest.
