Mahaffey is going no where she is still the most popular council member and with her race is blind. She is a good woman who cares and still carries her duties out and gets the job done.
Talabi - I don't think she does much but she is not horrible.
Cockrel - What does he do? Does he ever say anything?
Bates - GOTTA GO!
Sheila Cockrel - GOTTA GO!
Collins - I am indifferent on her - not sure if she is that strong.
Watson - Good and smart.
Sheila Cockrel - Gotta go! Ever since she was the deciding vote to close the aquarium. She is considered to be the hardest council memeber to work with and she is difficult.
Pastor Daryl Redmond is running - He is a good man. Very well liked on the east side - smart guy with some good ideas. |

Collins got driven out of congress for stealing money from her office fund. I think she belongs on the city council. Bates when running the Recreation Department for the city bragged he only flew first class because he wanted to set an example for the city youth.

Jdmdetroit to answer your question, never worked for the city never been in a union, I don't need to be I don't need to be protected I good at what I do. My, guess is working for the city and not being in a union means you have to be accountable for your actions, I think the city pays out 30 to 50 mil a year in damages from lawsuit caused by unionized workers. That money comes straight out of the general fund. Because it is extremely important to make sure that if you get drunk on the job you are not held accountable for it. |

Mahaffey - has to go all she does is mention the charter all meeting.
Talabi – has to go clueless
Cockrel Jr. – I like what he says but can you show up to some meeting (might vote for him)
Bates – has to go, how can a city afford to pay workers, that don’t actually work.
Collins – has to go, absolutely clueless.
Watson – Social Worker, that has to go she believes a city with no money should give every thing away for free. If grand standing was an accomplishment she has gotten a lot down since she has been on the council.
Sheila Cockrel – My only for sure vote for the current council. She is the only council not against making tuff decisions my vote is based on her continual statement to the rest of the council We don’t have the money we can not keep everything open there has to be cuts and layoff. These words are true whether the rest of the council want to believe it or not. Plus her attendance is great.
I have been to a few council meeting, but watch allot of them on TV here are my observation:
They remind me of a Saturday Night Live skit.
They do very little, but take credit for everything. Voting yes for a project doesn’t mean you had anything to do with it, I would love to see them get there hands dirty for once.
Bates will always go off on a tangent, that ends up with him looking around and people don’t look like him.
Joanne Watson doesn’t quite get that, not everyone can perform all jobs, you cannot take someone that doesn’t have a high school diploma and make them a computer engineer.
Last time I looked the city had just a shade under 900,000 citizen but they are constantly fighting for the 17,000 city workers and ignoring the needs of its citizens. I also often wonder how many of those city workers still live in the city maybe 10 to 12 thousand (just a guess). It is not my job to pay taxes so city workers can have a job and live in the burbs. (one disclaimer to above statement don’t layoff police and fire that is a service the city is supposed to provide.) |

I met Ms Snow at an event in IVA for Sharon McPhail. I was very impressed with her and I believe most of the crowd was. After McPhail spoke the hosts introduced her and a couple of other city council people. Sarah stayed and talked to people for a long time afterwards. She has my vote .... she was open and honest. |

Another reason the Snow didn't make in the primary is she didn't go out that much into the Detroit community and face the majority "Blacks" She have to get some recongizition in order to get the popularity. She didn't win just becuase she's white. She didn't win becuase of not enough recognition and that is POPULARITY. Like I wrote to you before. " POPULARITY and then RACE will play a significant role in politics. She'll be back. |
