At least name it what it is: White Supremacy. We live, still to this day, in a white dominated society. We vote against affirmative action for black people while simultaneously continuing our 500 year history of affirmative action for white people. If you say racism and white supremacy doesn't exist you are either blind, afraid to recognize the cold hard truth, or yourself a racist.
I'm fucking tired of this whole ignoring race business. Ignoring race is not eliminating racism or white supremacy. Ignoring race is in and of itself racist. It is a total disregard for reality.
I'm fucking tired of the blame always being on those in the city of Detroit. Never on the suburbs. They say it's always the City who prevents cooperation. They say, we will cooperate, we are reasonable and good people. It is a shame they fail to recognize that it is themselves who prevent cooperation. It is the suburbs who wish to impose their will on the those in the city. It is a culture handed down since the invention of the white race over 500 years ago. A culture that continues to this day, and must be destroyed.
We must recognize that only the oppressed who can liberate themselves. Rich white people will not be the ones who make everything better. No, only under the leadership of oppressed groups will the oppressor ever help with the liberation of the oppressed.
We must recognize that this unjust system we continue to live under (and many fail to recognize) dehumanize both privileged and oppressed. And this dehumanization is the the root cause of innumerable amounts of problems.
The city of Detroit is a phoenix and will rise up from the ashes. Through death comes new life. |

blah blah, you are boring, you offer nothing new, I challenge you to make a solid five point plan for your neighborhood in ham-town.
A five point plan with an objective, an action plan, budget, and schedule.
It is really tough when folks from out of town, slam folks that work every day to make the city better.
You mention Stoney Creek like it's a crime there is a house on that land, but fail to mention Savoyard Creek which has a city sitting on top of it. It is a blanket, "where have all the flowers gone" whine. It's boring. Old. Useless.
Tell me where you are going to be to plant some flowers and I'll be there. Rebuild a fence. I'm there with tools. PTA meeting? Tutoring session for 12 year olds. Count me in.

I lived my entire life in that shithole and my family were victims of many crimes perpatrated against us simply becuse we are white.

I still would like an answer to a question (an array of questions, really) I have posed, before. Why is it so difficult, for so many people, to accept that a person who cares about Detroit may also be a person who has harshly critical, negative things to say about Detroit? Must we have the "Detroit: Love It Or Leave It" approach, and turn up our snotty, snooty, and sooty noses at every suburb and suburban? Does a vastly lower crime rate render a city "boring?"
I live in Detroit, and I kinda still love it a little bit, too. Been here quite some time, actually, but I'm about ready for some fuckin' boredom, if that's what it is when a city's streets are not crawling with predators, criminals, homeless refuse, sociopaths, psychopaths, and all manner of low-lifes, if that's what it is when a city's services are actually dependable (which is to say, "paid up," since no broke-ass city, fancy casinos and riverwalks and all, is going to have dependable services,) if that's what it is when I can go to a neighborhood grocery store and the meat section doesn't smell of decaying chicken and disinfectant, if that's what it is when the city's roads don't look, and feel, like Beirut immediately after a mortar attack, when the city doesn't just toss a pile of sand, gravel, and thirty-year-old Elmer's Glue into a hole in the street and call it repaired, if that's what it is when I can pull up to a freeway-exit traffic light and not see huge piles of fried chicken bones & boxes and empty Hennessey bottles, if that's what it is when uninhabited buildings and houses are not left to rot where they stand before becoming hiding places for God Only Knows What The Fuck, if that's what it is when not every available flat space has been tagged with gang symbols and vulgar messaging, if that's what it is when people can congregate for a Saturday night at a club without the relatively strong likelihood of gunfire being involved before the night is over, if that's what it is when the air doesn't reek of self-loathing, contempt, desperation, and generalized anger, then somebody please loose me of my financial bonds so I can immediately sign up for The Yawn Patrol. |
